Purpose of Life
Our purpose in life should be one which first seeks the kingdom of God and His righteousness. We live in a world which is constantly being affected by the winds of change. And in the ever-changing world, it is often a joy to come and across people who, despite the many adversities that life throws at them, can hold on to their faith unwaveringly. At the same time, it is not uncommon to witness the other subset of the population who do not seek God; and when they do, their faith is frequently guided by selfish motives.
Jesus clearly instructs us (Matthew 6:33) ‘but seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you’. While the literal context of this verse cannot be wholly excluded, the words in this context relate to the “seeking” of prayer and scripture reading. It is the seeking of knowledge that comes from Godly revelation. The following passage from Matthew 16 is the epitome of knowledge attained through revelation from God. “But what about you?” he (Jesus) asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon the son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but my Father in heaven”.
The pursuit of this knowledge entails, but it is not limited to spending time in prayer, Scripture reading, meditation and building up intimate connection with God. The attainment of such a knowledge provides a foundation through which the kingdom of God is revealed in our lives. One should note rest contently with the transformation that comes with God’s revelation but strive to lead others in their new-found wisdom.
Let’s resolve to stand steadfast in building up the kingdom of God. Let this be the main purpose that directs our lives. All glory and honour to Him forever and ever.
