We Believe in Trinity

Our Triune God is uniquely one in essence but three in Persons, embodying the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This divine trio, while performing distinct roles, shares the same divine nature, illustrating the profound unity within diversity in God’s being.

Scripture reveals that Jesus Christ, who entered our world two millennia post-creation, was present with God from the very beginning. John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,” highlighting three critical truths about Jesus and His relationship with the Father:

1. Jesus existed from the start, “in the beginning”, actively participating in creation alongside God, thus existing eternally.
2. Though Jesus is distinct from the Father, being “with” God, they are not the same person.
3. Jesus shares the same divine essence as God, affirming His deity. He “was God.”

John 1:14 NIV further unveils Jesus as the Word made flesh, who lived among us, revealing the glory of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Similarly, the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, played a role in creation, as Genesis 1:2 NIV describes the Spirit of God moving over the waters. The Spirit’s involvement is further echoed in Psalms 33:6 NIV, where creation is attributed to the Word of the Lord and the breath of His mouth, symbolizing the unified action of the Trinity.
Despite their distinct revelations across different times in the Bible, it’s evident that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit coexisted from the beginning, united in their divine essence.

John 14 beautifully illustrates the interconnected roles of the Trinity, emphasizing how their unified work benefits us, showcasing the omnipotent nature of God. Through Jesus’s words, we understand the exclusive path to the Father, the visible representation of the Father in Jesus, the promise of the Holy Spirit as our advocate, and the indwelling presence of God among those who love and obey Him.
1. “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”” John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

2. “Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.” John‬ ‭14‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

3. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” John‬ ‭14‬:‭16‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV

4. “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John‬ ‭14‬:‭23‬-‭26‬ ‭NIV‬

In essence, the Father’s promises and commands are made known through Jesus Christ, and the teachings of Jesus are continually reminded to us by the Holy Spirit, who resides within us. Understanding each Person of the Trinity enriches our lives, assuring us of God’s sovereign care. To God be all praise, glory, and honour.
